Hidden behind scrub brush and a state training facility for emergency services, the airport at SEAD was a main artery for material in and out of Seneca Army Depot. It was also used to train Naval Aviators during WW2 (Learn about this at the museum in Sampson State Part across the street). The runway is approximately 3000 ft. long and 600 ft. wide with aircraft parking/fueling areas at both ends. The runway is asphalt. Both surfaces are in very good condition (no potholes, broken pavement, etc). This is a great place to play! How often do you get to drive where B52s and C130s used to rule. Our course will utilize the concrete southeast parking/fueling area to create a loop, eliminating the pin turn obligatory to many runway course designs. (Of course that's up to the Course Designer). This also adds a challenge of different surfaces within the course. There are landing lights and other hard objects in the grass. Of course, the course setup will be checked for safe runoff per SCCA standards and common sense. "Agricultural excursions" are discouraged. We will have a viewing area / tent set up strategically to provide the best viewing of cars-on-course. Do be prepared to walk. Tech and grid will be between the course and the pit areas. Please be careful walking in the grass. We will have areas mown, however the ground is not very even. There is some poison ivy hidden in the grass. There is very little shade. We will have a dumpster available, However we ask that you take home everything you brought to the site. Please remove all car parts, old tires and any other large items. Want to experience the site before the ProSolo? Join us for some regional Solo events. May 24 and 25 will see a full weekend. Western NY region is hosting an regional Solo event on Saturday. The Finger Lakes Region is hosting an event on Sunday. The weekend of June 14 and 15 finds the Finger Lakes Region hosting a test-n-tune event on Saturday and a Regional solo on Sunday. More information about these events can be found at the FLR Solo schedule pages. When we aren't using this site for Solo events, it is used for driver training for law enforcement personnel. The local fire departments use the area by the control tower for training purposes. The Seneca County Industrial Development Corporation is working very hard to put this complete complex to good use while respecting the unique environment. The street address is 6471 RT-96A, Romulus, NY 14541. |
